Status Ailments.

2 kinds of ailments in this wonderful game.. Permanent (ie, the conditon remains after the battle and can be cured in the Menu) and Temporary (ie, the condition will remain constant on the character for the duration of the battle, then disappear once the battle is over or cured beforehand) so, heres a list of what array of ailments you may be vulnerable to in battle along your journeys.

Permanent Status:


Mute: Magic cannot be used in or out of battle.
Cure with EchoHerb or Esuna.
Appearance: Speech bubble above character's head.


Poison: HP loss at regular intervals, if not cured when walking, you will Lose HP per step.
Cure with Antidote or Esuna.
Appearance: Crouching with purple face & skin.


Blind: Lowers Weapon Accuracy greatly.
Cure with EyeDrop or Esuna.
Appearance: Character wears sunglasses.


Mini: Attack and defense lowered to 1, can still use Magic.
Cure with Aprntice or the Esuna or Mini spells.
Appearance: Character looks like a tiny person.


Frog: Attack and defense lowered to 1, can only cast Toad spell.
Cure with MaidKiss or Toad or Esuna spells.
Appearance: Looks like a frog.


Piggy: Lower Speed; cannot cast any spell but "Piggy".
Cure with DietFood or the Piggy or Esuna spells.
Appearance: Looks like a pig.


Cursed: Attack & Defense power halved.
Cure with Cross or Esuna.
Appearance: A skull floating above the character's head.


Levitate: Makes the character(s) float above ground, making them immune to Quake spells and harmful terrain (ie, squares in the Slyph Cave and Cave of the Summons)
Must be re-cast every time you enter another room or staircase.
Appearance: Floating in the air.


Stone: Effectively disabled in for the rest of the battle, you are immune to all kinds of attacks whilst under Petrify however. If the entire party is turned to stone its game over.
Cure with Gold-Pin or Esuna.
Appearance: Completely grey and crouched.


Wounded/KO: Dead, basically.. when your HP reachs 0, this condition comes automatically. If the entire party becomes KO'd its game over.
Cure with FenixDown, or the Raise or Arise spells.
Appearance: Lying on the floor.

Temporary Status:


Confusion: Attacks a target at random during battle, allies or enemies, damage is much lower then per normal.
Any regular attack will cancel this status.
Appearance: A green semicircle rotating above the head.

Blink: Multiple images of the target appear, making it impossible to be hit for 2 turns (2 shadows) magic can still hit you regardless.
Appearance: Blinking multiples of the character appear behind him/her.

Reflect: All spells cast on that target will be reflected to the opposite side of the battle (some spells cant be relfected mind you), this is a good technique when the monster itself has reflect cast.
Appearance: Can't see!

HP Down: The result of special enemy attacks, your HP will decrease even though you are not poisoned.
You cannot cure this!
Appearance: Can't see!


Sleep: Temporarily out of the battle, the character cannot take any action until s/he wakes up.
Regular Attacks will cure this.
Appearance: Crouched, with a blue tear-shaped bubble at the character's mouth.

Slow: Lowers the targets speed, longer times between moves.
Can be countered with Haste.
Appearance: Can't see!

Haste: Good status. Takes less time to be ready to attack.
Appearance: Can't see!

Stop: Disabled for a certain amount of time, character cannot act.
Wears off after a fairly long time..
Appearance: Can't see!


Paralyze: Cannot move or attack. Wears off after a fairly long time.
Can't be cured.
Appearance: Crouched with jagged lines around the character.


Petrify: The character is turned to stone after 3 or 4 casts, it doesnt effect anything in battle unless the spell is completed.
Cure with Esuna or Gold-Pin.
Appearance: Part or all of the body is grey.

Berserk: Attacks all enemy targets uncontrollably, raised Strength, Agility, Vitality temporarily.
Appearance: Can't see!


Death Sentence: A countdown to the characters Doom, once the timer hits zero its KO.
Can't cure!
Appearance: Green digits above the character's head.
